Happy Black History Month! February is winding down, and I hope that everyone has been able to support Black businesses intentionally for the past few weeks. Supporting Black brands and amplifying Black voices shouldn’t only be limited to one month, though — so here’s another very Black list of brands to check out, spend your Black dollars with, and love as much as I do. This time, we’re talking jewelry.
Wrapped in Meditation
Wrapped in Meditation offers handmade jewelry, holistically crafted with uniqueness and wellness in mind. Many of the pieces feature healing stones and crystals, offered in copper, sterling silver, and in some cases, gold-filled or solid gold bodies. Leah, the owner, also offers goodies including ebooks and courses, a wire-wrapping workshop, and a Divine Feminine Energy healing ceremony.
I absolutely love the dainty, handmade quality of WIM’s pieces, and I’m definitely in the market for another of the rings. It’s also worthwhile to note Leah’s customer service. The first order I placed with her took months to arrive because of pandemic and holiday-related USPS delays, and when I reached out to her about it, she was super friendly and responsive. She checked in when my shipping status finally updated and again to make sure it had been successfully delivered. The entire exchange left such a good impression!
Gypsy By Knature
I am in love with the bohemian-chic, wild-spirited quality of Gypsy By Knature‘s brand. Founded by self-proclaimed wanderer and free-thinker Anishka Boozer, GBK’s pieces are for the women who “command the room with their personal style, yet remain forever elusive.” Wearing GBK reminds of us our divine feminine and grounds us in our sacred, spiritual ancestral connections.
I’m a ring girl, so of course, I own a beautiful gold vermeil ring. As if the free-spirited, feminine essence of this brand isn’t dreamy enough, GBK promises conscious sustainability from its production to its packaging.
Studio Tesfaye
Founded only in November 2020, Studio Tesfaye is a still-small but growing brand that offers gorgeous, handcrafted earrings. Owner Ruthie plays with color, texture, and shape to create super playful, yet fashionable pieces. This brand is for the gworls who love making a statement with their jewelry; it’s unique enough to do just that, yet casual enough to incorporate into daily wear.
I own two pairs of Studio Tesfaye’s earrings, and I can’t get enough of them. They’re lightweight, funky, and clearly made with love and care. I know customer service can be a huge deal for people who shop Black-owned (I wish we would keep that same energy for these white businesses but that’s a different conversation *rolls eyes*) so I’ll go ahead and mention that Ruthie is an absolute sweetheart!
Humans Before Handles
Humans Before Handles celebrates getting back to yourself — who you are outside of the carefully curated world of social media. HBH boasts a huge selection of accessories, from eclectic statement earrings to unique hair accessories to fun socks. According to their Instagram bio, they’ve been recognized by Cosmopolitan Magazine, New York Fashion Week, and even Beyonce!
Not only are their products fun, they’re super affordable — which is always a plus.
Lelia Mae Jewelry
Although I haven’t bought any of Lelia Mae‘s jewelry (yet), I was drawn to their affordability and vintage feel. I adore vintage jewelry, from rings to earrings to necklaces. Another thing that caught my eye was their authentic, vintage luxury brand pendants, from Dior to Chanel, re-worked into affordable necklaces. Lelia Mae’s pieces are elegant and timeless, and you don’t have to break the bank for quality.
My cart on their website might consist of half their inventory at this point, seriously lol. The only reason I haven’t checked out is because I’ve been eyeing some goodies that are currently out of stock, and I’m waiting to blow a bag in one fell swoop.
Omi Woods
Having been featured in Vogue, GQ, and Essence, Omi Woods is no stranger to beauty and excellence. Founded by Jamaican-Ashanti-Maroon Ashley Alexis McFarlane, Omi Woods aims to celebrate our connections to Africa and her diaspora. The jewelry is individually and ethically handmade with fair trade African gold sourced from small-scale artisanal mines and globally sourced, conflict-free fine metals.
What I love the most is that OW’s pieces can be tailored to your budget and style, whether you’re in the market for affordable yet high-quality gold vermeil, sleek sterling silver, or fine solid gold. The jewelry itself is breathtaking, truly embodying the richness of the diaspora.
Of course, I am always open to new Black business recommendations, so if you have a few favorites of your own, please drop them in a comment below! In the meantime, be sure to check out some of my other Black-owned business guides!
