Lately, I’ve been detoxing every morning. My esthetician suggested it to help maintain a healthy complexion, which is only one of the many health benefits.
Detoxes help cleanse the toxins from your body, lessening the burden on your organs. In turn, this can result in weight loss, improved digestion, reduced bloating, clearer skin, increased energy, and enhanced mood and mental clarity.
Our bodies have natural mechanisms for filtering and excreting waste (think liver, kidneys, urine, sweat, stool) but lets face it — most of us don’t make it a very easy task. Our exposure to environmental pollution and tendency towards processed foods, alcohol and caffeine make our bodies a playground for inflammation. Then comes the sluggishness and irritability we experience, as the body expends so much of its energy trying to rebalance itself.
While there are tons of ingredient combinations you can use to make an effective detox tonic, mine are usually turmeric-based. Turmeric is one of my favorite spices to incorporate into my meals — read about why, and other superfoods I consume regularly (including the additional spices in the lemon-turmeric tonic) here.

- 1/2 dash of cayenne pepper (optional)

Apple Cider Vinegar-Turmeric Tonic

I find that these drinks go down easier when I use a straw, as opposed to drinking out of the glass. I don’t know why, but… just a friendly tip!
There you have it! These tonics are super simple, and should be easy to incorporate into your morning routine. Even when I wake up at 5am for work, I’m able to squeeze in my detox before I head out.
If I’m not feeling a homemade tonic, I’ll mix up a glass of this cleansing supplement powder.
Do you detox regularly? If so, what kinds of recipes do you enjoy? I’d love to try some out!
